Vitamin D and Brain Health

Tufts University and other institutions in America have conducted this research the results of which have been published by the Journal of Alzheimer's Association. The bottom line is that nutrients, especially vitamins, can have positive effects on the brain as we age. According to Sara Booth, director of the USDA Human Nutrition Research Center on Aging (NNRCA) at Tufts Unversity, Vitamin D is found in abundance in bones, fatty fish, milk, and orange juice, while sunlight is also absorbed through the skin. It makes Vitamin D.

But now, growing research shows that Vitamin D and brain Health are very beneficial for brain function, and evidence of this has been found in brain samples. In this Study on aging and memory, the brain tissue of a total of 209 participants was systematically studied. This research was started in 1997. It has been found that the irregularities that begin in brain tissue and cell with aging can be detected even after death.

The experts looked closely at the four areas in the Brain where Vitamin D was present and acting. Two of them were linked to Alzheimer’s disease, one was related to blood flow in the Brain and dementia, and a fourth was unknown to scientists. However, signs of deficiency or excess of Vitamin D must be found in these four parts of the Brain. But it also found that areas of the brain where Vitamin D was high showed slightly less deterioration than others. That said, the presence of Vitamin D improves mental performance, including memory in general.

But why does this happen? Even the scientists themselves do not know and in the next phase, it will be further researched. However, scientists have warned that they should not use Vitamin D supplements indiscriminately but should consume up to 600 IU per day for normal people and 800 IU per day for elderly people.
